Brazil’s Got Talent!!

Brazil is very in vogue right now. São Paulo Fashion Week recently celebrated its fifteenth anniversary, the South American country will host the World Cup in 2014, and Rio de Janeiro won its bid for the summer Olympics in 2016. With Brazil taking center stage—and the whole world watching—we decided to take an in-depth look at the three designers who we think best embody the energy and culture. Osklen’s simple, jersey-based line was effortlessly chic and almost begged for an Olympics-themed capsule collection. Designer Oskar Metsavaht created an amazing floral-flame print on an exquisite high-collared sheath dress (above left). Ronaldo Fraga also produced a noteworthy collection. His printed metallic frock was a showstopper—each square in this modern look literally shimmied down the runway as models weaved in and out of the hundreds of discs that were individually strung from the ceiling of the Bienal Pavilion—the hub of SPFW where the Vogue lounge was located. Finally, Neon’s vibrant, colorful knits took things to the extreme. The comical sunglasses knit dress (above right) was over-the-top, and each model walked the runway striking a dramatic 1950s-esque pose. In a city whose inhabitants spent nearly two billion dollars on luxury products last year, this is just a snapshot of what we’re seeing burst onto the scene—expect more to come as Brazil moves further into the limelight.
