Miss Angola Crowned Miss Universe 2011
All Miss Universe contestants were breath-taking and poised, but the most stunning of them all was Miss Angola, Leila Lopes. The 25 year old model, whose parents immigrated to Angola from Cuba, was crowned Miss Universe on Monday September 12, beating 84 contestants who didn’t make it to the Top 5, and the following 4 who did:
First runner up: Miss Ukraine, Olesya Stefanko, age 23
Second runner up: Miss Brazil, Priscila Machado, age 25
Third runner up: Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup, age 25
Fourth runner up: Miss China, Zilin Luo
It is noteworthy that Lopes is the first Angolan Miss Universe.
Surprisingly, Portuguese is the official language of Angola. However, Miss Angola used a Spanish translator to answer the question she picked from one of the judges.
There hasn’t been a Miss Universe from the African continent since Miss Namibia (Michelle McLean) won in 1997. Quick reminder: Last year’s winner was Mexican Ximena Navarrete.
Congratulations to the Angolan beauty!
